This spring we worked away outside on various projects, one of which was the gardens. Last spring I revamped our front gardens, and this year I wanted to work on the side gardens.
The garage side of the house had a garden started, but it needed some taming and we wanted to remove the rock border so it would be easier to cut the grass around it. Dan moved all the rocks for me (these guys were really heavy!) and placed them inside the gardens around the house.
After that I spent a lot of time removing the old much, spreading around the dirt and picking rocks. I moved around the existing rose bushes and asters and added some small boxwood.
I’d love to add some of our peonies to this garden but I’ve heard fall is the best time to move them so I’ll wait to do it then.
The chimney side of the house had no garden at all so we cut the sod out and added dirt to get it started.
The tree we moved to this side of the house last spring and we added a few boxwood and an extra aster from the other garden to start things off.
After everything was planted Dan got a load of mulch from a local landscaping store and we finished things off with the fresh black mulch.
I love seeing the gardens start to take shape. I’m looking forward to adding to them a little each year. In the meantime they pretty up the edge of the house and make mowing the lawn so much easier.
