One of my favourite things about thrift shopping is that you never know exactly what you might find. We have a good little thrift store not too far away that I like to browse whenever I get the chance. They have mostly furniture, dishware and housewares and it’s always fun to see what treasures they have amid all the stuff.
I’m fascinated by vintage art. Have you seen any gallery walls of vintage paintings? They’re kind of amazing to me. I can’t get over how they pull together these beautiful pieces of art that so many pass over. So I always try to take a peek at the art, but hadn’t found anything that I really loved until I stumbled upon this vintage embroidered art.
It was stuck in a plastic frame that didn’t do it any favours, but it resonated with me. I remember my grandma embroidered a few cloth canvases with flowers just like this one, so it makes me think of her. I hemmed and hawed over it for a few minutes trying to figure out how it would look in our home. Then I realized that it was five dollars and if it made me smile, this was the kind of art I should have on my walls.
I’ve always had a hard time choosing art for our walls. It’s such a personal thing but I’ve discovered that it’s often the more unexpected pieces that I end up loving on our walls, so I have to remind myself to be a little risky.
Do you have any thrifted art on your walls?
