I’m a slow decorator. Changes take me a long time. Every once in a while I feel this urgency to hurry up and finish. To paint those rooms, to build that furniture and to finish that space. And while I’d love to have that all done, I’ve come to realize that that’s just not the way I am.
We work on projects as we have time amid life and kids and work. We do all our projects with cash, so often our time table is directed by our budget that month. And truthfully, I just don’t like having to make a multitude of decisions at once.
I like the process of creating home. To paint a wall, to rearrange a little corner, to find a better storage solution for a space, it brings me joy. Even if I had all the time and money in the world to completely finish our home today, I don’t think I would want to. Because I love the act of creating home too much for it to be a one time thing.
Our family, our lives, they change and grow. Our needs change and the things that inspire us change. And our homes should be able to change right along with us. It won’t always be a full room makeover (and most of the time it won’t be) but the little things, the things that we use and love and see everyday should be able to be rearranged or adjusted to fit our lives right now.
So let’s gives ourselves and our homes grace. Creating home is often more of a journey, then a destination. And there’s so much good in that.
